Northwest softball community,
I have coached for softball in the northwest for 13 years and have learned a great deal about the local and national softball landscape. I have directly experienced the frustrations and challenges of reduced opportunities and additional expenses that exist for northwest families and organizations- i.e., climate, outside the social networks of national orgs, travel for competition, etc. I don’t believe that we must accept the status quo.
Three years ago, I faced a choice- join an existing organization that is part of the established softball network or take the more difficult path of building a new brand. My competitive nature and guidance from well-established college coaches convinced me to build a new organization. Thanks to a lot of selfless people who have worked alongside me, we have become a highly regarded organization known for excellence, while providing our players with opportunities and competition many never thought possible for northwest teams.
Some of those folks who helped us are part of Alliance Fastpitch’s leadership team. Launched in 2020, Alliance truly embraces the philosophy of “a rising tide lifts all boats”. Their goal is to create a national community dedicated to increasing resources, training, and exposure opportunities for players of all skill levels whether they belong to a national or local organization. Within a system of meritocracy, Alliance provides a growth path for all athletes and organizations striving to improve the athlete’s experience. Their focus is on inclusion and growth of softball including softball communities outside the mainstream markets.
To achieve their goals, Alliance envisioned “leagues” to serve as local ambassadors and organizers in regions around the country. At one point, the thought was that the Pacific Northwest could be served by SoCal. But as our organization grew both in size and quality, Alliance felt comfortable in discussing the opportunity to create the Northwest Fastpitch League with our management team leading the regional efforts.
As we enter our third season, the benefits from Alliance and NWFL have grown in scope and quality. Every month, Alliance provides player members with multiple online seminars about softball skills, mindset training, and the college recruiting process. Partnering with AthletesGoLive, costs have been reduced, player profile tools have improved, and now all Alliance events will feature leader boards powered by AGL and promoted by Extra Innings Softball. We’re adding signature events, partnering with more local tournament directors, building a Northwest Nationals event, assisting in the growth of a Seattle based college showcase and camps- essentially elevating the competition, exposure, and networking opportunities for all players in the northwest. As we continue to grow, we are looking for organizations to serve on our advisory board and ensure that the benefits NWFL provides serve the needs of the entire northwest softball community.
Alliance registration for the 2023-2024 season will open on August 15, 2023. The new membership will include a team insurance package that satisfies the requirements of USSSA, USA Softball, NSA, TCS, and USA Preps.
